weekly summary 10/17

In process, writing goals on October 17, 2008 at 3:51 pm

my goals for this week were:
#1 / identify poems for my next submissions
#2 / write one new poem
#3 / revise two existing pieces (one to submit to a journal; one for the manuscript)
#4 / read one poetry collection
#5 / (optional) complete & share one free write

here’s what i accomplished:

#1 / identified poems for next round of submissions, which will be prior to month’s end
#2 / wrote several* new poems, including the sensitivity poem, the dead artist poem, the forest poem, the many colored fiction poem part 1 and part 2 and the running poem
#3 / revised two poems
#4 / read immortal sofa by maura stanton (here’s a great interview with her)
#5 / completed and shared one free write
#6 / finished a collaborative piece with poco pal slynne
#7 / met with my writing buddy jill

here were my challenges:
anxiety. unhappy thoughts. family & studio commitments. lack of focus on the more linear aspects of my goals (revision, selection, planning).

my goals for next week are:
#1 / revise poems for my next submissions
#2 / write one new poem
#3 / begin to write a summary/vision for the manuscript
#4 / read one poetry collection
#5 / (optional) complete & share one free write

*this level of productivity is a result of the poetry gong i’ve started with jill. the risk is writing a bunch of crap; the benefit is breaking the back of the creature that has kidnapped the muse and silencing that mean, mean inner critic.
